Policy Speech by the Governor of Tokyo, Yoichi Masuzoe, at the Second Regular Session of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly, 2016

3. Achieving fulfilling lives for Tokyo residents

I have spoken about measures that will take Tokyo to further heights, to a bright future. My mission is to ensure that each of these bear fruit and to have the residents of Tokyo feel glad that they were able to live in Tokyo. Using the vitality born from fulfilling lives as the driving force, I wish to achieve a Tokyo that continues to develop and grow in our children’s and grandchildren’s age.

In conclusion, I would like to again deeply apologize for this current issue concerning me. I am extremely ashamed that I damaged the Tokyo citizens’ trust in me to steer the affairs of Tokyo, and the trust of the members of this Assembly, with whom I shared responsibility for managing Tokyo. I deeply regret what has happened and will firmly address the issue. I fully understand that restoring trust is not something that can be done in a short span of time. I hope to live up to the expectations of our citizens by taking steady steps forward for the growth of Tokyo. I sincerely apologize for the enormous trouble I caused. I am very, very sorry.

Including the matters to which I have already referred, a total of 25 proposals including 9 ordinance proposals and 11 proposed contracts have been presented to this regular session of the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly to be deliberated among the Assembly members.

This concludes my policy address to the Assembly. Thank you.
