Second meeting with the IOC Coordination Commission
On Wednesday, July 1, Governor Masuzoe attended the second meeting of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Coordination Commission for the Tokyo 2020 Games.
Greeting the commission, the governor said, “Through united efforts nationwide, I hope to fulfill my responsibility as leader of the host city by continuing to advance preparations in close coordination with the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly, central government, and Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee. I want to use the Games as a catalyst to make Tokyo the best city in the world—a city where diversity in areas such as lifestyle, culture, and values is respected and anyone can achieve happiness. With the knowledge that the Tokyo 1964 Games served as the foundation for Japan’s extraordinary economic growth, the main priority for the Tokyo 2020 Games will be deciding the types of legacies these Games will create. I will dedicate all of my efforts to making these Games the best ever, relying on guidance from the IOC in a range of areas, and working in cooperation with the central government, organising committee, and others.”
The IOC Coordination Commission for the Tokyo 2020 Games oversees and advises on aspects from the preparation phase to overall delivery of the Games. Meetings of the commission will be held a total of ten times during the seven-year period from the host city selection through to the Games.
