Meeting of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board
On Friday, June 5, Governor Masuzoe attended a meeting of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board.
At the meeting, the governor said, “For the Japanese people, the Paralympic Games held 51 years ago in Tokyo was our first encounter with disabled sports. I am very proud that Tokyo will become the first city to host the Paralympic Games for a second time. We are very much looking forward to hosting the Games in five years and fully committed to the preparation. The Olympics are important, but the success of the Paralympics will be the key to the success of the 2020 Games as a whole, and show that Tokyo has become a mature city. Hosting the 2020 Games is not the final goal for Tokyo; After the Games, I hope to see Tokyo transformed into a truly splendid city that is barrier-free in many ways.”
Officials from the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games gave presentations on the state of preparations at the meeting. Based on the vision for the Games and core concepts, they explained such matters as the expansion of the framework for preparations for the Paralympic Games, measures for enhancing accessibility, and the progress of the review of venue plans.
