Governor returns from Seoul
平成26（2014）年7月23日（水曜）からソウル特別市（韓国）を訪問し、ソウル市長との面会をはじめ、ソウル歴史博物館や観光案内センターの視察、国会議長や京畿道知事との面会、セウォル号事故に対する弔意を表す献花、朴槿恵大統領との面会及びソウル大学での講演を行い、25日（金曜）夜、帰国しました。
舛添知事は、帰国に先立ち、現地で記者会見を行い、「18年ぶりでやっと2つの首都、姉妹友好都市であるソウルと東京が正常な関係になったと大変喜ばしく思います。それから東京都民を代表しまして、セウォル号の悲劇に対して、心から弔意を表すことができました。今東京は2020年のオリンピック・パラリンピック大会に向けて様々な準備をしておりますけれども、IT化が非常にソウルは進んでおります。例えばWi-Fiが自由に無料で使える状況、一日も早く東京もそういう状況にしたいと思っております。また、移動観光案内ということで、若い方々がカップルになっていろいろな言葉でソウルの観光案内をなさっていますけれども、これも参考にしたいと思っております」と話しました。
On the night of July 25, Governor Masuzoe returned to Japan after his three-day trip to Seoul, South Korea, where he met with the mayor of Seoul. During the trip, he also visited the Seoul Museum of History and a tourist information center, met with the speaker of the National Assembly and the governor of Gyeonggi Province, offered flowers at an altar to mourn the victims of the Sewol ferry accident, paid a call on South Korean President Park Geun-hye, and delivered a speech at Seoul National University.
Before returning to Japan, at a press conference held in Seoul, the governor said, “I am so pleased that for the first time in 18 years, the relationship between the two capitals and friendship cities, Seoul and Tokyo, has finally been normalized. During this trip, I was able to pay my sincere respects to the victims of the Sewol ferry tragedy on behalf of the people of Tokyo. Tokyo is currently making various preparations for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Seoul has a very advanced IT infrastructure such as free Wi-Fi readily available in the city, and I hope we can quickly realize such an environment in Tokyo as well. Also, Seoul has a ‘moving tourist information service,’ in which young people walking in pairs are ready to assist tourists in various foreign languages. We want to consider the possibility of offering such a service in Tokyo.”
