Project 1

Theme:

A self-driving taxi service operated in cooperation with the airport limousine bus in central Tokyo

Project overview

Connect airport limousine bus centers and Tokyo Station and its vicinity with self-driving taxis. Provide an efficient taxi dispatch service by utilizing MaaS (Mobility as a Service for integrated booking and payment of multiple transportation systems), and verify measures for inbound demand and shortage of commercial drivers.

New service to be adopted in the project

Verify a service that allows users to book and pay for multiple transit systems together by using smartphones and other devices.

Description of the tested vehicle

  • Base vehicle: Toyota’s Estima Hybrid
  • Lane change, right/left turn, stop and other operations are all automatically operated by the system (to be intervened by drivers in emergencies only)

Implementation area

Area extending from Chuo-ku to Chiyoda-ku

Project 2

Theme:

Creation of new means of transportation for realization of MaaS for islands tourism

Project operators

Aiko Kanko / NTT East Corporation / NTT Data Corporation / Gunma University

Project overview

Aim to create new means of transportation for visitors to the islands by linking Hachijojima Airport and existing transportation systems (municipal bus, taxi) with a self-driving bus.

New service to be adopted in the project

Create an MaaS portal site where visitors can search, reserve, and pay for sightseeing routes using multiple transit systems available on the islands, and verify the feasibility of this service as a business model.

Description of the tested vehicle

Base vehicle: EV bus “eCOM-10”
Lane change, right/left turn, stop and other operations are all automatically operated on limited routes determined in advance (to be intervened by drivers in emergencies only)

Implementation area

Area extending from Hachijojima Airport to the Hachijojima Tourism Association
