Governor of Tokyo to Attend the "2 Years to Go to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Countdown Event”

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is pleased to announce that Ms. Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo, will attend the countdown ceremony portion of the "2 Years to Go to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games Countdown Event” on Saturday, August 25 from 4:30 pm to 5:05 pm. She will additionally attend the demonstration of rowing event from 5:10 pm to 5:30 pm at the same event. With the competition starting in two years, this is an opportunity for many people to participate in building momentum toward the opening of the Games.

TMG will also raise funds in support of those affected by the July, 2018 heavy rain and flooding disaster in western Japan, and will install a donation box at the event site.

The stage programmes will include a panel session, quizzes and a rowing demonstration by athletes. There will also be a variety of booths hosted by sponsor companies offering a range of activities and displays, including booths where visitors can try their hand at various Paralympic sports, some of them deploying cutting-edge technologies.

On the day of the event, the entire Tokyo Water Front City, which will host many of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games events, will come alive with a variety of activities.

Visitors can learn about the characteristics and highlights of Paralympics venues and rules of the sporting events.

(2) Countdown ceremony (4:30 p.m. - 5:05 p.m.)

    Tokyo 2020 Medal Project - Towards an Innovative Future for All! A project - “Revive your old phones and recycle it to make medals” – has been launched.
