Taste of Tokyo 2016 – Details Finalized

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government will hold the Taste of Tokyo 2016, an event which aims to share the various attractions of Tokyo with those in Japan and abroad, including the agricultural, forestry, and marine products of Tokyo and cuisine made from such ingredients, as well as the traditional culture that has been passed down through the ages.

The details of the event have now been finalized as follows.

1. Date and Time

October 7, 2016 (Fri.) 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
October 8 (Sat.), October 9 (Sun.) 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
To be held in the event of rain. (May be cancelled in inclement weather.)

Yurakucho area

Festival runs until 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 8 (Sat.) and Oct. 9 (Sun.)

Hibiya area

To be held for two days on Oct. 8 (Sat.) and Oct. 9 (Sun.) only

Marunouchi area

Marunouchi Naka-dori Ave.

Cuisine from around the world created by famous chefs using Tokyo ingredients
The Marunouchi Chef’s Club will use ingredients produced in Tokyo to create their renditions of regional cooking from around the world not well-known in Japan, including feijoada from Brazil and sliders from the United States, to be sold out of food trucks.

Gyoko-dori Ave.

Find items Made in Tokyo
Fresh seasonal fruits and vegetables grown in Tokyo, Tokyo milk and Tokyo ukokkei (silkie chicken) eggs, which are rare due to the limited amount produced in Tokyo, and even products from the Izu Islands such as fish caught off the islands will be sold directly by producers.

Various traditional Japanese handcrafts nurtured by the climate and history of Tokyo will be displayed and sold. Japanese sake produced by Tokyo breweries that have carried on the tradition since the Edo period will also be sold.

12,000 potted flowers will be on display. Flowers will be handed out to visitors starting at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9.

Featuring foods from across Japan

Local gourmet specialties from across Japan will be sold from food trucks, including freshly cooked French fries and croquettes, flavorful boxed lunches, rice bowls, fruit wrapped in crepes straight from the griddle, and light, refreshing gelato.

A wide variety of delicious items from all over Japan will be sold such as marine products, dried goods, sweets, ice cream, locally brewed beers, and tea. Unique yurukyara mascots will also make appearances and promote the regions they represent.

 

Hibiya area

Art and food that can be enjoyed with all five senses

Restaurants located in the Hibiya area, including a western restaurant that is more than a century old and an okonomiyaki restaurant visited by celebrities, and famous gourmet shops that have been recognized at gourmet grand prix competitions will sell cuisine that incorporates Tokyo ingredients out of tents and food trucks.

Taste of Tokyo 2016 will also team up with Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia to show film(s) involving food. Live musical performances by a group that includes former members of the famous Takarazuka Revue female theater troupe, a parent-child art workshop (conducted in Japanese), and a variety of entertainment events will be held.
