Launch of Global Human Resource Staffing Support Project

As the business world continues to internationalize, the need is growing for small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) to hire globally-proficient staff knowledgeable in overseas markets and business customs, and capable of coordinating business activities overseas.
To support SMEs working to expand into overseas markets in securing skilled human resources, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) is launching a project to raise interest in employment with SMEs in Tokyo among qualified candidates living abroad.

TOKYO CAREER GUIDE Website

  • Introduce the appeal of working in Tokyo to talent overseas through the eyes of foreign residents working here
  • Cultivate the image of working in Tokyo by featuring the experiences of 30 foreign employees of SMEs
  • Diverse content to include information needed to work in Tokyo such as labor conditions at Japanese companies and business manners
  • The site will explain the steps to finding work in Tokyo, as well as provide information on fee-based employment agencies with experience introducing professions to foreign nationals (For details, seehttp://www.tdh.metro.tokyo.jp/english/find_a_job/( External link ) )
  • Information will be provided in Japanese and English.
  • The site is also smartphone-friendly to provide convenient access to users around the world.

*Eligible global human resources will likely have a university degree or higher, be a skilled professional (researcher, engineer, etc.), or a sales professional in charge of overseas expansion, and mainly qualify for a visa under the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services Status of Residence category.

Starting in March

  • Hold events in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Taiwan to raise interest in working in Tokyo through efforts such as introducing foreign employees working for companies in Tokyo and examples of companies that employ foreign nationals.

Tokyo Career Consulting Desk

  • The desk will handle individual questions and consultations from global human resources such as “What is the difference between working at a company in Tokyo and working at a Japanese company in my country?” and “For the type of work that I want to do what level of fluency in Japanese is required?”
  • At the consultation desk, staff with expertise in career consulting and other related fields will provide detailed responses to inquiries received by phone and e-mail.
  • In addition, depending on type of consultation, staff stationed in major cities in Asia will provide assistance in person.
