Japan Connected-free Wi-Fi is a smartphone application that allows easy search for 140,000 hotspots (as of December 2015), including main Japanese airports, stations, sightseeing facilities, and convenience stores, and simple connection to free wi-fi upon entering any of those areas. It has had about 1.24 million downloads as of December 2015. Operated by Wi2, this is an Android/iOS-compatible Wi-Fi-connection app for international visitors, which allows automatic connection at over 200,000 access points throughout Japan, centering on airports, major train stations, eateries, and sightseeing spots. In less than 10 months since its launch, it has recorded over 1 million downloads by international visitors alone. It also provides information on special offers and sightseeing information nearby, and other useful information for travelers; with an annual distribution capability in the range of 100 billion contents per year, it delivers a great deal of information on traveling in Japan.
