Tokyo’s Official Tourist Guide, “Tokyo Handy Guide” App Released

As part of efforts to warmly welcome visitors to Tokyo, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government and the Tokyo Convention and Visitors Bureau have been publishing the “Tokyo Handy Guide,” an official tourist guide to Tokyo, for distribution at hotels, tourist information desks, train stations, and other locations.

Against the backdrop of increasing numbers of international visitors to Tokyo and Japan, a “Tokyo Handy Guide” app, carrying the contents of the published Tokyo Handy Guide, has been released to enhance convenience for travelers.

Main features

Area maps with tourist information and maps compiled by area in Tokyo

Sightseeing information is provided by area, such as Shinjuku and Asakusa. Information on the Tama area and the Izu and Ogasawara Islands, rich in nature, is also provided. It also contains information on facilities in Tokyo such as gardens and parks, zoos and botanical gardens, amusement parks, and museums.

Information and features making it easier to walk around town

  • Use the “Spot nearby” function to search for sightseeing locations around you.
  • Use the “Favorites” function to register your own must-go spots and create a convenient list of places to go.
  • Use the “Keyword” function to enter terms to find information.
  • Easy-to-see maps and transportation routes that can be used offline are also provided.

About Tokyo Handy Guide

This is Tokyo’s official tourist guidebook. This fiscal year, 3.9 million issues were printed in nine languages (Japanese, English, Chinese (simplified, traditional), Korean, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Thai). These are distributed for free at tourist information desks, hotels, train stations, and other locations. They are also available at the digital pamphlet gallery (http://www.gotokyo.org/book/?la=en( External link ) ) of Tokyo’s official travel guide site, “GO TOKYO.”
