A Message from Tokyo's Governor Koike on Selection of the Official Tokyo 2020 Games Mascots
Today the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) announced the official design of the Tokyo 2020 Games mascots.
Governor Yuriko Koike issued the following statement in regards to the Tokyo 2020 Mascot Selection:
Yuriko Koike, Governor of Tokyo
After much deliberation, more than 200,000 elementary school classrooms from across Japan and at Japanese schools overseas have cast their ballots to determine the design of the Tokyo 2020 Games' official mascots. I'm very glad to hear that a selection has been made.
Along with the members of the Mascot Selection Panel, I would like to express my gratitude towards the teachers and school officials who worked together with the children across Japan and at Japanese schools overseas on this selection poll.
I believe that participating in this poll provided a valuable opportunity for the children to gain a deeper understanding of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020, and to feel closer to the Games themselves.
This summer the mascots' names will be decided. I look forward to seeing these ambassadors of the Games in action.
With a little more than two years left until the Games begin, together with our adorable new Tokyo 2020 Games Mascots, I hope to continue creating momentum and excitement regarding the Tokyo 2020 Games among the people of Tokyo and those across the nation.
Thank you for your continued support.
