Governor’s Comments on the Nuclear Test by North Korea
- Today, North Korea ignored international opinion in favor of nuclear non-proliferation, and conducted a nuclear test.
- Such an atrocious act is in violent disrespect of Japan, the only nation that has suffered nuclear attacks, and the international community, and is totally unacceptable. We seriously protest this outrage.
- With regard to the effects of the nuclear test, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will thoroughly monitor radiation levels and provide accurate information to the residents of Tokyo in order to relieve their fears.
- We will again strongly request the central government to enhance their diplomatic efforts and work closer with the international community to resolve issues such as nuclear arms development, missiles, and abduction, in order to uphold the peace and security of our nation.
