Opening of the "Landmarks of New York" Exhibition

An exhibition of photographs of historically significant structures in New York, a sister city of Tokyo, will be held in the South Observatory of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government No. 1 Building. It will be jointly organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the American Embassy in Tokyo, and others. Details are as follows:

Date: June 9 (Friday) - July 12 (Wednesday), 2006
Time: 9:30-17:30 (entrance until 17:00)
*Times for June 12 (Monday) and 26 (Monday) and July 10 (Monday) will be 9:30-23:00 (entrance until 22:30)
*The exhibit will be closed on June 20 (Tuesday) and July 4 (Tuesday)

6. Items on Display

(1) The exhibition consists of 81 photographs of New York City landmarks put on display to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the enactment of New York City's Landmark Preservation Act. The displayed photographs comprise a wide-range of buildings, including public facilities, factories, offices, universities, museums, parks, and churches; each of which has its own unique story and history. Through these photographs the viewer is able to see a snapshot of the transition and history of New York from the 1640s up to the present day.

(2) In addition to the photographs the exhibition will also include a multimedia display consisting of historical documentary film footage of New York landmarks along with 3D images captured by satellite of both New York and Tokyo landmarks.
