TMG'S INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Tokyo City Promotion Campaign
In order to attract a greater number of foreign
visitors to Tokyo, the TMG is actively carrying
out overseas promotional campaigns that target
the general public along with travel industry professionals. “City sales” activities are developed to
heighten the allure of Tokyo as a tourist destination
and to encourage the development and sales of tour
packages to Tokyo.
This project began in 2002, and by the end of
fiscal 2011 events had been conducted in 19 cities
of nine countries in Europe, North America, and
Oceania.
- Sending city promotion delegations overseas
To encourage the development of tour packages
to Tokyo, the TMG cooperates with private sector
businesses involved with Tokyo tourism to conduct
overseas seminars and business talks targeted at local travel industry professionals.
- Promotional campaigns aimed at the general populace
Promotional advertising is carried out in various
overseas media such as newspapers and magazines
to have the public become more aware of Tokyo as
an alluring and charming travel destination.
Special events are also held to directly convey the
attractions of Tokyo and motivate people to visit
Tokyo.
- Other
Follow-up activities are conducted by regularly
supplying businesses participating in Tokyo city
promotion events with tourism information. Overseas tour operators and the media are invited to
Tokyo to actively encourage development of tour
packages and the publishing of articles related to
Tokyo tourism.
Additionally, in order to open up local markets after conducting city promotions, a “Tokyo Tourism
Rep” is assigned to each area to follow up on local tour operators and to gather and provide information for tour package development. The rep works
to find and cultivate influential local tour operators
who will develop tour packages and send tourists
to Tokyo.
