TMG'S INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES
Tokyo City Promotion Campaign
In order to attract a greater number of foreign visitors to Tokyo, the TMG is actively carrying out overseas promotional campaigns which target the general public along with travel industry professionals. "City sales" activities are being developed to raise awareness of Tokyo as a tourist destination and to encourage the development and sales of tour packages to Tokyo.
This project began in 2002 and by the end of fiscal 2007 events had been conducted in eight countries and 16 cities around the world.
- Dispatching city promotion staff overseas
To encourage the development of tour packages to Tokyo, the TMG cooperates with private sector businesses involved with Tokyo tourism to conduct overseas seminars and business talks targeted at the local area's travel industry professionals.
- Promotional campaigns aimed at the general populace
For the purpose of giving the general public a good impression of Tokyo as an alluring and charming travel destination, promotional advertising is carried out in various overseas media such as newspapers and magazines.
- Other
Follow up activites are conducted by regularly supplying businesses participating in Tokyo city promotion events with tourism information. Overseas tour operators and the media are invited to Tokyo to actively encourage development of tour packages and the publishing of articles related to Tokyo tourism.
Additionally, in order to open up local markets after conducting city promotions, a "Tokyo Tourism Rep" is assigned to the area to follow up on local tour operators and to gather and provide information for tour package development. The rep works to find and cultivate influential local tour operators who will develop tour packages and send tourists to Tokyo.
