On August 30, one day before the September 1 “Disaster Preparedness Day,” a comprehensive disaster management drill was jointly conducted by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, Setagaya Ward and Chofu City. This year’s drill envisaged the severing of urban lifelines through the occurrence of an earthquake with an intensity of lower-6 on the Japanese scale directly under the east Tama area. Over 10,000 people including local residents and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police and Fire Departments participated in the drill amid light, intermittent rain.
